SaaS Product Design

2025

We struggle with contract complexity, and are often overwhelmed by volume , compliance demands, and review cycles. A Limited legal budget, means we can’t handle lengthy contracts. Often end up operating based on trust. Facing gaps in usability, explainability, and AI transparency.

Problem Statement

84% of Indian MSMEs struggle with contract complexity,

yet over 70% lack dedicated legal support during drafting and review.

Projected scale of AI agent market.

Pain Points

Universal

Manual contract searching and information retrieval - Daily productivity drain, decision delays. Data security concerns with new technology adoption - Innovation blocking, regulatory risk.

High Impact

System fragmentation and lack of integration - Workflow inefficiency, data silos Repetitive manual template customization - Resource waste, human error risk. Lack of contract portfolio visibility - Strategic blindness, risk exposure

Role Specific User Flows

Client wants drafting & core contract help, not a full CLM replacement disrupting their existing tools. Entire teams (even non legal) are used to apps like docusign for e-signing and verifying, don’t need to replace that.

Decisions Made

Co-Pilot Drafting

AI powered drafting with complete user control to speed up repetitive workflows.

Tradeoffs:

May over-assist and reduce user trust if not transparent. Risk of hallucinated legal content.

Constraints:

Must preserve user control and editing capabilities

Needs legal-quality generation (e.g., tone, accuracy, structure).

Result:

AI drafts content in user’s tone/style, but always user-reviewed before finalizing. Enhances speed without sacrificing oversight.

Clause Analysis Features

Automatically identify clauses and flag risky, biased, or uncommon ones with a visual rating per clause and entire document & suggest changes for problematic clauses.

Tradeoffs:

Too many highlights can overwhelm users

False positives/negatives may confuse or mislead

Constraints:

Must be explainable, visual, and clause-specific

Needs reliable legal dataset and tuning

Result:

Clear clause-by-clause analysis with severity tagging and suggestions. Drives confidence in legal review without needing a lawyer.

Voume Management System

A cloud or local contract CMS with version control, filters, tags, and smart folders. All contracts indexed and searchable by semantics, with custom tags, contract types, and metadata for organization.

Tradeoffs:

Complex interface if too many organization tools.

Constraints:

Needs to support high-volume contract search/filtering. Must allow secure tagging and retrieval

Result:

Tag-based, semantically indexed CMS with smart folders, aiding contract tracking, audits, and sorting across departments.

SOC II Compliance

Hosted on secure, SOC 2-compliant cloud infrastructure with end-to-end encryption, with audit logs to ensure compliance, especially for enterprise legal standards.

Tradeoffs:

Increases infrastructure cost and complexity

Slower initial deployment cycles due to compliance audits

Constraints:

Enterprise clients require compliance for legal use

No user data should be stored without encryption

Result:

Clause is built on secure infra with audit logs and encryption by default. Enables trusted use in enterprise and legal teams.

Open To Integrations

Clause exports in standard formats, and can integrate into any pipeline without disrupting workflows across teams, like e-signing, negotiation, etc.

Tradeoffs:

Needs extensive API compatibility

Harder to support in a closed system with visual UX tools

Constraints:

Must support formats like .docx, .pdf, .json, and connect to tools like DocuSign or Slack

Result:

Clause outputs in open formats and can plug into external tools. Avoids becoming a closed CLM system, making it easy to adopt.

Outcome Post Testing

faster first-draft generation

upto 40%

fewer missed redlines or risky clauses
